Historical Event on 5/22/1961

Jnanpeeth Award was instituted and the first award was given in 1965. This award is given for the best creative literary writing by any Indian citizen in any of the languages included in the VIII Schedule of the Indian Constitution. The award carries a cash price of Rs 2.5 lakh, a citation and a bronze momento.

3/17/1988First operational Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS-1A) launched by a Russian Vostok. IRS system under National Natural Resources Management System (NNRMS) coordinated at national level by the Planning Committee of NNRMS (PC-NNRMS) and the data from IRS satellites is processed by the National Remote Sensing Agency, Hyderabad.
